Telehealth has existed for decades in some form or another, but only in the last few years has it received increasing attention as a means to achieving the goals of the Triple Aim: efficiency, better health outcomes and better care. However, the ubiquitous adoption of telehealth continues to lag despite improved technology and increasing amounts of evidence. Existing policy barriers on both federal and state levels contribute to the limited use of telehealth. This factsheet examines some of the major barriers that currently exist.
