OIG Fraud Alert Focuses on Purported Telemedicine Company Practices, Cautions Practitioners

Citing a significant increase in fraud schemes, on July 20th the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released a special fraud alert to warn providers of questionable telemedicine company practices. The alert outlines that the fraud schemes being referenced revolve around inappropriate orders or prescriptions for medically unnecessary items such as durable medical equipment (DME) and genetic testing.
